Waterford Convertible Rules

Per direction of the Waterford Hills Road Racing Board of Directors, the following rules on convertibles are now in effect.

  • Convertibles – Must be on the Approved Waterford Hills Convertible List or outfitted with a rollbar that passes the “broomstick” test. (Driver’s helmeted head is below a bar placed on top of the rollbar and windshield).
  • Waterford Hills Approved Convertible List:
    • Convertibles With Factory Rollover Protection (OEM)
      • Porsche 911 Cabriolet (996, 997, 991, 992) — hidden pop-up rollover hoops included.
      • Porsche Boxster/Spyder — documented OEM rollover protection.
      • Audi TT Roadster — factory rollover structure.
      • Audi A4/S4, A5/S5 convertibles — OEM rollover protection.
      • BMW Z4 / 1,3 and 6 Series / M Models (1998+ with factory pop-up or fixed bars) — When equipped with production rollover protection.
      • BMW E36 (with optional Pop-up bars)
      • BMW E46/E90
      • Jaguar XK / XKR & F-TYPE convertible — structural rollover protection.
      • Mercedes SLK / SL convertible — factory rollover bars.
      • Mini Cooper Convertible — has factory rollover structure.
      • Nissan 350Z/370Z Roadster — built-in rollover protection.
      • Volkswagen Eos & Beetle Convertible — OEM rollover structures.
      • Honda S2000 — Only if driver passes the broomstick test
      • NSX convertible (where applicable) — OEM protection noted in some lists.
      • Aston Martin Roadsters (e.g., DB9/DBS) — factory rollover bars.
      • Lamborghini Roadsters (Gallardo/Murciélago variants) — OEM rollover protection.
      • Dodge Viper SRT-10 (2004+) — factory rollover hoops.
      • Chevrolet Corvette — C6 and newer have suitable rollover protection (C5 and earlier do not)
      • T-Top and Targa top vehicles
    • Convertibles that are NOT approved for track day operation without an added rollbar:
      • Mazda Miata — no documented rollover protection
      • Ford Mustang (all years) — no documented rollover protection
      • Chevrolet Camaro (all years) — no documented rollover protection
      • Lexus SC 430 — not considered protective for track roll safety
      • Pontiac Solstice / Saturn Sky — no OEM rollover
      • Chevrolet Corvette C5 and earlier – no OEM rollover

In addition to the rules concerning convertibles, all vehicles must have: “Whiplash protection (Head Rests or full-length seats) is required for active sessions.”
