Brandon,
Thanks, this is one of the covers I have found mentioned as usable for this conversion. I have one on order from GM Parts Direct now.

Nope. Life and work seemed to get in the way of completing it in time. I know, I really need to get my priorities straight.

Over the weekend I was able to replace the Valley cover with the Gen-III 4.8 L cover plate. Magically, I now have 50 psi of oil pressure at cold idle.

In addition, I have been able to sort out most of the cooling system. The new radiator was modified and is in place, the fan was modified to fit, and an expansion tank now resides on the passenger side firewall. Tonight I am planning on fabricating the mount for the oil and PS coolers. Then I can put the bumper and bumper cover back on the car.

Oil cooler mount was fabricated last night, tonight I modified the auxiliary cooler which will be plumbed to the heater circuit. This is just to add a little more cooling capacity to help the radiator out a bit.

Oil Cooler in place. PS cooler will be mounted in this area as well, once I figure out a good way to secure it.

Added AN fittings to the Aux cooler tank. As mentioned above, this core will be plumbed directly to the heater core circuit on the water pump.

That was an "It's too early to tell". The swap should be completed by then, but not sure about the engine calibration.

As of right now, the only things left to finish are:
Welding up the exhaust
Hooking up the clutch master cylinder. (Mount has been fabricated and is in the car)
Setting the Pinion angle
Power steering lines
Re-installing the gauges and switch panel
Install the brake master cyl
Bleed brakes and clutch
Set the alignment
Engine cal

You can take care of all that in the paddock. Ask Ken.

Andy,
A year ago, I may have attempted that. This year I am trying to avoid hauling the car around the country just to wrench on it.
Some of the items on the list could easily be done at the track. Actually most of them could, if that was all that needed to be done. I have every night this week, and the weekend to try and get this all completed.

I'll furnish the beer if anyone wants to come over to IL and work on the car with me this weekend.

If you can get it out to MI with some time to spare on the 20th, I can get you on the dyno with short notice.

Greg,
I appreciate the offer, but I don't see that happening. This weeks schedule got screwed and I am spending the rest of the week in Milwaukee, so the evening garage sessions are pretty much ruined. I will be hitting you up for some dyno help in July though.
Are you coming out to Waterford this weekend?

I will make an appearance, but neither car is track ready. Brooke says I should just use the TBSS to "instruct" four people at a time. I'm not sure how much brake pad is available on the truck right now and it's been a while since they were bled.

Fuel system is complete, turbo/downpipe/exhaust ready to drop back in with plumbing attached, interior/carpet/seats mostly done. I still need to get the intake manifold from Lee before I can finish the cooling hoses, PCV, and intake plumbing. Then we're on to coil fitment and final wiring harness connections.

It looks like the project car may finally be making an appearance at the track. Only a few minor items to wrap up and then I can load it into the trailer.

Final checklist of things to finish.
Install Accusump oil line
Bleed brakes
Wire in Brake lights
Install O2 sensors
Alignment
Fill fuel tank
Engine cal
Voltage follower / buffer for the tach signal. (Unsure if the ECM signal is sufficient to trigger the tach)

Andy,
You win. Car will not be leaving the garage this weekend. Was unable to get a dyno session set up for the engine cal.

Calibration is over-rated. Just run it and see if your pistons are fragile.
